It may *seem* that way, but a lot of that can be put down to imbalance in reporting. You hear more from the right-wing opposition, first because they have more money to get their message out, and second because the mainstream media tend to fall into one of two categories: either they're also right wing and agree with those views, or they're squishy pro-EU liberals who prefer to paint the opposition as right-wing fanatics rather than having to address the left's anticapitalist critiques.

The Lisbon Treaty campaign in Ireland illustrated this perfectly. Although the Treaty was opposed by every party to the left of Labour (who aren't very far left), if you just went by the media reporting you would think that the opposition was led by either business interests mainly concerned with protecting Ireland's low corporation tax, or by fringe ultra-Catholics afraid of abortion and immigration. (The latter were particularly blamed by the media for the Treaty's initial defeat, although this was not backed up by the subsequent research into the result.) It's worth noting that in the European Parliament elections that followed the second referendum, candidates representing the right-wing opposition were solidly trounced around the country, while the (Trotskyite) Socialist Party took one of the three Dublin seats.
