I don't know if this doc. has been shown in the US yet, but it is very good. 
The only strange thing about it is that the director (art-punk Julien 
Temple) has put loads of music in, but almost no motown.

Films of Record, a Ten Alps company, has been commissioned by BBC Two to 
produce Requiem for Detroit? (1x75'), a documentary that will tell the 
roller coaster story of the city's automotive industry through the testimony 
of the people who lived through it. It is directed by Julien Temple.
