SOM lands $10 million gift Posted by Carole Bass '83, '97MSL on 5 November 2010, 12:05 pm
The current economic mess is evidently paying off for bankruptcy expert Wilbur Ross ‘59 — and for the Yale School of Management, which announced a $10 million pledge by Ross toward the new SOM library.
The CEO and chairman of WL Ross & Co., which specializes in reorganizing distressed businesses, was a Yale undergraduate when his father died. “Yale was a beacon that provided financial support,” Ross says in a press release. “This is a good opportunity to give something back.”
Since Yale had no business school back then, Ross got a Harvard MBA. He now sits on SOM’s board of advisors.
The management school is planning a $180 million new campus on Whitney Avenue, across from the Peabody Museum. The firm of architect Norman Foster ‘62MArch is designing the project.
