I don't know what kind of research could confirm or invalidage this -- but until overwhelming evidence to the contrary is provided, I will maintain that tv, radio, etc. never change anyone's mind (or only an insignificant number) but merely strengthen these preexisting viewpoints as Jefrey describes here.
Major public events can create an atmosphere in which others (but more acquaintances than media) can change minds. My uncle became far less racist as a result of the impact of the Summer Riots -- people who reacted like that were to be respected. They were serious.
