[lbo-talk] the CFR worries about decline

I was about to state that US GDP as a percentage of the world has been
declining, but apparently it hasn't, at least in the past few decades
(though it remains below its postwar peak.) I'm too lazy to check whether
this would hold if the USSR hadn't folded.
America has rivals growing much faster than it, but in 1945 it had enemies
that were. Militarily it seems equally true that no-one is openly
challenging the American position and that America can't even pacify puny
little countries anymore. There seems to be an unusually strong home team
advantage in contemporary warfare.
