[lbo-talk] European Welfare State

While we might be wrong to think of the EU as a worker's paradise, it's really hard to imagine that the core EU is worse off than the U.S.

Although the same neo-liberal forces are at play everywhere, the conditions in the core EU countries are really much better than in the U.S.

AN might be right in drawing our attention to the fact that these conditions are under direct attack in the EU. But he really doesn't seem to understand how utterly wretched life is for most in the U.S....and about to deteriorate further.

This is very strange requirement, one you make of AN every time this comes up. Why does he need to contemplate life in the US when the discussion is about Germany? It's very odd. It's like the US is the norm/ideal and nations are to be measured by their degree of deviation from it. I'm tempted to think it's a form of leftist US exceptionalism, but that doesn't seem like you. ___________________________________ http://mailman.lbo-talk.org/mailman/listinfo/lbo-talk
