Ed Miliband wins Labour leadership by wafer-thin margin
Ed Miliband was announced as the new leader of Labour by the narrowest of margins on Saturday afternoon at the conclusion of a tense race between two brothers which has exposed significant differences of opinion over the future of the party.
Ed won 50.65 per cent of votes against his older brother David’s 49.4 per cent after the votes of the eliminated candidates had been redistributed.
The race, which began in May, began with former foreign secretary David in front of Ed, the former energy secretary, but ended on a knife edge with the bookmakers switching to Ed just 24 hours before the result.
