There's something rather peculiar about this statist outlook. After all, in the end, governments don't make anything, people do. Should the people be grateful for the government? They create the wealth that the government disburses (largely to the obscenely wealthy).

And if the people have truly lost the government's trust, then perhaps the government should dissolve the people and elect another, as Brecht mocked.
