CB: If not escalating, the facts and institutions of white supremacy are still very robust. The Tea Party and associated rightwing activists have reintroduced some raw forms of racist rhetoric to mainstream discourse. For example, Senator Paul has called for allowing racist discrimination in public accommodations. This is a position identical with that held by Strom Thurmond or George Wallace in the middle of the Civil Rights struggle.
"Nobody" claims that the "conservatives" "reduce" to racism. Racism in the US has always been intertwined with anti-working class positions on the right. John C. Calhoun's positions don't reduce to white supremacy. His racism "reduces' to defense of class exploitative society.
1. Schools are currently as segregated as they were in the early sixties.

2. Minorities have been disenfranchised through mass incarcertaion that guarantees the loss of voting rights in many states.
3. The re-definition of lynching as law and order. The exploding prison population. Perhaps the only thing that has moved from the private to the public realm has been lynching, by way of the same mass incarcertion program noted above.
4. The dismantling of quotas which, flawed as they might have been, allowed some small number of minorities an education or a job. This of course in the name of the free market.
Yes, interracial marriage is permitted and a black man is president; but these pale compared to 1-4.

CB: 6. Black and Brown people have significantly lower life expectancy, higher morbidity, lower incomes/higher poverty rates, less education, higher unemployment than white people. These are the most important facts constituting white supremacy in the US
