Go to the public library and look at Smithsonian magazine (or check its web site here).

I do not subscribe but have never passed it by without finding something interesting in it (I remember one a few years ago on the veteran's bonus marches on Washington after WW I). And it is sort of multi-disciplinary, touching on archaeology, general sciences, etc.

The only knock on it may be that the majority of the articles seem to focus on the Americas - but I stress "seem".
