Ken writes: ‘The political stripe of whomever is in power does not seem to make much difference. Both in Greece and now in Italy politicians have been replaced by technocrats.’

But if the first was true, then why would the second happen? It is reasonable to say that the reformist politicians were poor defenders of workers’ interests, but too much to say that their being forced out of office and replaced by unelected ‘experts’ was a question of no weight.
