Shag: Things to do in DC:  It's not cafes, shops, bookstores, but my
recommendation, if you like swimming, is the Rumsey Pool on Capitol Hill:

ever swum in, beautiful windows overlooking Eastern Market (which is worth
a visit). Free for DC residents; $5 for non-residents (you have to pay with
a credit card, but I found they usually just waive the fee).
