On Tue, 1 Feb 2011, Doug Henwood quoted the Awl quoting the NYT quoting a govt. report:

<which continues from what Doug quoted>
Even more daringly,
notes the Times, American's two favorite non deep-fried food items are
called out.
While the recommendations may seem obvious, it is nonetheless
considered major progress for federal regulators, who have long
skirted the issue, wary of the powerful food lobby. (The 112-page
report even subtly suggests that people eat less pizza and dessert.)

Pizza?? Of all our sins they single out that? There's nothing nutritionally wrong with pizza if you're inside your calorie cap. (And there's nothing so good it won't make you fat if you're outside it.)
Chips, now there's empty calories. And for that matter just about anything you can eat direct out of a cellopuff bag. That would have been a radical thing to say. The whole processed corn industry is built on it.
