Wallflowers at the Revolution

======

I've done enough reading for one day. Too torturous a process. (I've read shag & the one paragraph I quoted. But just thinking a bit about this headline, "...Revolution," it occurred to me that among the things we don't know is whether this is a revolution or not. All of us (myself included) regularly use sloppy diction on this topic. We know that an insurrection is going on, though we don't know what kind of success it will have. An insurrection consists merely in the attempt to overthrow a state power. But Revolution, real substantive change, is a far more complex and lengthy process, not immediately recognizable. And it is a lengthy process, measured in years. Whatever diction we use, I think it would lead to clearness of thought if we kept this distinction in the back of our minds at least. Essentially my disagreement with Chuck's fine post was that I thought he was seeing revolution rather than 'merely' an attempted insurrection -- and that there is no basis for calling it a revolution yet.
