I thought he was seeing revolution rather than 'merely' an attempted insurrection -- and that there is no basis for calling it a revolution yet.

Okay, I agree, but that is the question in the air. Will this mass insurrection be turned onto the road of revolution?

There are many elements to consider. Can the army be split off from upper command? Will enough of the masses be convinced they have taken a road of no return? If the police state gets its power back, it will surely go after as many as they can to stop this from happening again.

My speculative answer was to ignor the question, and begin creating the ad hoc infrastructure to take over the state institutions through the lower levels of the unions: transportation, banks, all the places Mubarak shut down. Create the communication links to neighborhood security groups who run their territories and provide their own security. I wish the media would stop calling these groups vigilanties, when they are volunteer police.

In other words set up an alternate state ruled by a central committee. There were already rumors reported that the Suez Canal workers wanted to start a strike operating the canal. That sounds like a great beginning move.
