Somebody: This is the crucial issue here. Yes, in the abstract it would be better for universal labor rights and social welfare to prevail. But, in really existing capitalism, you need organized labor as an (admittedly modest) counterbalance to the bourgeoisie and it's unofficial representatives.
Lind is a truly noxious figure. He promotes a kind of national chauvinist protectionist ideal of American capitalism, a fortress America impervious to foreign intrusion, in which big manufacturers and a monolithic federal bureaucracy run the country on behalf of the little people. Honestly, I could see him aligning with right-wing populist parties elsewhere in the world, in countries as diverse as Poland and Sri Lanka.
