CP structures can accelerate basic industrialization and urbanization in majority agrarian societies. After that, you need much more complex and democratic structures of governance, because unaccountable oligopolies of any kind (whether political or economic) become massively corrupt, repressive and dysfunctional.
Neither China nor Vietnam are really one-party states anymore. They're mostly developmental states, tied to complex structures of public ownership, civil society, internal contestation, etc.
