What part? I thought she was going to Santa Barbara or was it Santa Monica? There was plenty of arty in Santa Monica, and its suburb, Venice. Although what was wrong with south of Market dance studios and SF City College? Both are very cool.
Just an opinion, which should be off list, but the problem with LA is the intense commercialism of everything. It numbs the sensibility and all those fine edges. And then there is the happiness angle, learning your craft with no master love...
I sat by as my son did his last of med school in LA and Houston two of the most souless cities in the US. But I got my daughter in law and two great grandkids He pulled real beauty out of the grand capital death grip....
There is hope.
