What part? I thought she was going to Santa Barbara or was it Santa Monica? There was plenty of arty in Santa Monica, and its suburb, Venice. Although what was wrong with south of Market dance studios and SF City College? Both are very cool.

I think she chose Santa Monica because her girl friend's maternal family is in L.A. Her gf's mother died of cancer when gf was about 11. I think she needs to reconnect to that side of the family.
L.A. is fine. Some outstanding architecture. Complete lack of pretension. Some good dance studios. Far enough from mom. Good weather. She's thinking of maybe getting into dancing for videos. We'll see. I don't actually think the bay area is that great for art. Giant stick up the butt. Except for ethnic dance....middle eastern, tango, indian.
They are renting a studio in Culver City. Direct bus to Santa Monica Jr. College. She graduated with a 3.56 GPA, but because of a couple of D's in disastrous 10th grade, the best she could do was Jr. College. We'll see how it works out.
What's funny is that I haven't cried yet. When her brother left, I cried buckets. But then, the last thing he said to me was "Thank you for everything you've done for me; I'll miss you; I love you." I wailed all the way home. But her. She said, "Bye mom, I'll see you in a couple of weeks." They're coming back the 29th. I don't know why. Then back to L.A. ten days later.
Haven't gotten round to Alice Neel.
