Checking today's nuclear power events at UCS:

``Fukushima Radiation Release Exceeds NRC Design-Basis Limit''

This is scientific double speak for a total disaster raging completely out of control. It means that all, underline ALL, available systems to contain the disaster have been elimenated.

Here is another laugh for today:

``Whatever the level, many experts warn that it's too early, and there's too little information, to determine what it means for the people who live in the region near the Daiichi plant.''

http://edition.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/asiapcf/03/15/japan.nuclear/?hpt=T2

It's not too early to know what it means. It means, get out.

I just got off the phone with my bio-physic buddy who teaches a nuclear science class at CalPoly. It's a general education science course so it is not very technical.

His general attitude was Chuck A. Alarmist.

This attitude comes directly from his education by the physics and chemistry departments at Berkeley, i.e. where they invented this terrible shit. He of course bought the whole positive belief system that surrounds nuclear science and its `peaceful' uses. The idea that there is any conceivable peace with nuclear fission, still amazes me. I scream in silence. You are out of your fucking mind.

This shit is so bad for life, even the Sun is not a safe location at ninety-three million miles away. If it were not for the atomsphere, we'd be cooked by just the UV. About the only thing that would live would be deep sea creatures under a mile of water.

Nuclear reactor safety, kiss my ass.

Here is wiki on Boiling Water and Pressurized Water Reactors:

``The boiling water reactor (BWR) is a type of light water nuclear reactor used for the generation of electrical power. It is the second most common type of electricity-generating nuclear reactor after the pressurized water reactor (PWR), also a type of light water nuclear reactor. The BWR was developed by the Idaho National Laboratory and General Electric in the mid-1950s. The main present manufacturer is GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy, which specializes in the design and construction of this type of reactor.''

Even the UCS pisses me off, since I think they don't completely rule out the use of nuclear power, with newer designs and better safety measurses... But this line of reasoning has been proven de facto to be ridiculous. Whether nuclear power could be made safely is irrelevant, since it has never been safe and in principle can not be made safe. Once you make radioactive materials, they are radioactive until they decay.

``Currently the United States has over 77,000 tons of waste. Environmentalists talk about how the radioactive material will be dangerous for thousands of years because of its long half-life. In fact, it will take 240,000 years for plutonium 239 to become safe!'

Now I am listening to the US bullshit about Diablo and Onofre constructed with the highest standands rated for a 7.5 earthquake. Fucking garbage, worthless, financial bullshit scumbag assholes... Obama is committed, fuck you. Does anybody say these shit reactors are the same design and fail the same way as those in Japan? Does anybody say that California is almost exactly in the same position as Japan? We mirror each other. If Japan is in meltdown now, so is California soon or later.

A bunch of statistics freaks will come out and say, Chuckle is delusional. Sure. But you guys are gambling, betting that it will not happen, what already has happened. I hate this shit. The probability of X remains unchanged if X occurrs. X has occurred. Get it? Fucking risk management----kiss my other ass.
