As to your point - certainly, solutions with low damage potential are preferable to high damage potential ones. But let's be reasonable about it. Airplane crashes, albeit rare, have a very high damage potential - nearly certain death of everyone involved, which given the size of modern aircraft is 200+ people a pop, and with some luck - up to 3,000. But that does not mean that we should abandon air travel altogether - even though I personally take a train instead of flying whenever it is feasible.
Again, I am not an advocate of nuclear power - all I am trying to do is to keep the discussion within reason.
