Somebody: It'd be nice. Compare Cuba versus Chile. They have almost identical health measures. But Chile's averages obscure greater disparities than Cuba's in terms of mortality and other health outcomes. The same is true for the United States, of course, compared to other industrialized nations. In other words, our pathetic standing in life expectancy and infant mortality underestimates how bad we are, for instance in the deep south and in inner cities. I suspect Cuba will show greater differences amongst the new rich and everybody else after Raul's reforms.
But I get the sense some think greater equity and higher quality medicine are mutually incompatible... which if I'm not mistaken, is actually a right-wing talking point. I don't accept the notion for a second, and the evidence does not support it either.
