A good many of them did; I actually knew one or two. They were *scared*. One guy literally kept a helicopter on the roof of his office tower because he really believed that the canaille might come surging through the door any minute. A lot of these guys, remember, had experienced the Thirties, which didn't seem so long ago at that point. They were scared back then, too.
1969 was also the year of Richard Nixon's guaranteed income plan, wasn't it? I forget now what that was called. Our last liberal president, as some wag once observed.
