Evergreen Readers If life were governed by sensibility, reason and rationality, rats would never reproduce. And, by analogy, no beasts would reproduce themselves. And, by still higher analogy, no rational human beings would go for the ordeals and pains and travails and anxieties of reproducing so precarious a thing as a human being.

^^^^^ CB: Rats ? Why wouldn't rats _reproduce_ ?

Anyway, there's species-being rationality ; and pleasure; and the travails, ordeals and pains of loneliness

^^^^

And if there were even a small fraction of sensibility, reason and rationality dominant in the world, women would never have been subjected to the tortures and torments of being described witches, there would never have been any atrocities or discriminations against them, or at least, ladies and gentlemen would have shirked from even the thought of reproducing daughters in the world....

And if there were even a still smaller fraction of sensibility, reason and rationality dominant in the world, we would have had communist revolutions in the USA, UK, and so forth long ago.
