This was in part relatively spontaneous as a response to economic
hardship, the empirical experience of it, with a minimum of theory of
how the capitalist system workers, more specifically with very little
Marxist, ie. revolutionary theory. Spontaneous means done with very
little revolutionary theory, very little Marxism, very little
consciousness of the class struggle, and the goal of ending capitalism
and instituting and running a viable socialism.  Lenin had said
without revolutionary theory there can be no revolutionary movement.
Of course, OWS is not revolutionary yet. It augurs radical reforms.
However, there something much closer to revolutionary theory in the
OWS organizers' theory than anything that has been on the American
poltiical scene as a mass movement since the 1940's. And American
style, empirically, inductively, from data, these Occupying Bolsheviks
_have_ derived some fundamentals of Marxist theory with respect to
class struggle. This is American motherfuckers dealing with some
abstraction, some generalization anyway, rederiving some very basic
Marxism.  We are the 99% is "Workers of the World unite, " sort of .

What does spontaneous mean?

CB: I'd say the opposition is spontaneous/socialist conscious.
Spontaneous action is done with very little theory or consciousness of
class struggle, the goal of socialism. In this case, the especially
spontaneous aspect was the thousands of Occupations around the country
and world that "sprang" up and hadn't been planned by the planners of
the Wall Street Occupation, as far as I know.  Masses actually have a
bit more advanced consciousness of the class struggle and ruling class
focused _political_ power at Wall Street, an economic institution,
than I thought when I started proposing a march on Wall Street a few
years ago. People really get it, and this is shown the militant,
enduring demos that have sprung up everywhere, including the response
of many to the call to Wall Street. Spontaneity is a relative quality
, of course.  This took very little "injection from the outside" as
Lenin phrased in _What is to be done ?_ from a van guard. I'd say the
mass and many city Occupiers _are_ the vanguard, Bolsheviks American
style. The anarchist input is in the Party form, the Facilitated
Consensus, though of course, it tends to Democratic Centralism because
it is necessary to have some discipline , some "authority" in order to
act effectively . Unity of action is often critical for it to be
effective.
