This seems to come up every so often.

It might feel like 4 hours, but I can assure you (having done it 5-10/yr for the past 20) it's nowhere near 4 hours. Didn't I post a recent trip log? Door-to-door, Oakland to LA, is often under 2 hours.
There are extreme examples (it takes me an hour just to get to SFO, which is why I don't do it; OAK is 20 minutes) but this idea that a train is going to beat a plane SF-LA is daft.
