That was Chomsky's self-characterization, at least back in the 80s and 90s.
He became furious - for him - during his famous "debate" with Perle, when
the Prince of Darkness offhandedly referred to him as a Marxist, or at least
of a proponent of Marxist economics. However, that may have been simply the
byproduct of Perle's dirty tricks during their encounter.
