lbo325 puts his finger on one of the ways in which OWS will change from 
the inside. There are probably other ways as well. A banal tautology is 
called for here: A process is a process. And we need more analysis of 
this process but that is for the purpose of eventually going beyond it, 
finding a way to take advantage of the tremendous achievements of this 
process in opening up possibility, not in trying to make OWS be 
something that it isn'tt and that it won't be. James asks some questions 
which themselves need critique: that is, the first step in analysis is 
usually to figure out what questions to ask. I don't think James has 
asked the right ones yet, but it's a start.

I think it's more a case of a compelling meme that found traction and has quickly spread and been adapted to local contexts. There's an element of OWS solidarity running through many of them, but most are (appropriately) much more focused on their own situations. I think many are also watching (quite reasonably) to see how actively anti-imperialist themes are embraced and promoted. Generally, I'd expect expressions of solidarity to follow any crackdowns that may occur around the world, and the intensity of expressions of solidarity with U.S. protestors specifically to depend significantly on how much anti-imp consciousness has been shown.
