There's a saying: "If you become your own boss, each customer becomes
your boss."

Being a rational consumer under markets is a good way to understand
how managers think, even if you're not yourself a manager. Easy to be
thoughtless, as you try extracting more work from producers. (Or get
their output cheaper.)
