One of the reasons actors like Harrison Ford were so effective as action heroes is that they seemed to be dragged by circumstances to commit acts of heroism in spite of themselves, fearful of consequences yet guided by a moral compass that overrode their fears, mocking and kicking themselves for being so stupid as to be heroic. Yet they do the right thing. Michael Moore and Paul Krugman have a bit of that in them.
