[lbo-talk] Noam Chomsky is losing it

[WS:] I do not find this argument very convincing. I would argue it differently - Israel has a political culture far more sophisticated than our own, and as a result of its policies are for the most part internally driven, an do not very responsive to international pressures (I think Chomsky's position that it is all a result of US influence is plain wrong.) Therefore, trying to influence these policies by creating international pressures will at best have little effect, but at worst may badly backfire.

While we are at this, I understand that certain segments of Israeli left argue for a single secular state in which Palestinian would have political representation. It seems more realistic than calling for a boycott, no?

His point was that by boycotting Israel, Americans would be boycotting a political culture far more sophisticated than our own. And since Israel would have a very hard time doing what it does without U.S. money and weapons, what exactly is the point of Americans pushing a boycott of Israel and not of ourselves? And how do we boycott ourselves?
