Many of us have learned from our own experience that things can look very different from the inside than the outside, so so I try to be avoid rushing to judgement about whether their actions are irrelevant, counter-productive, a diversion, strategically wrong, a betrayal, etc.

I'm not particularly interested in pursuing who said what and how, since everyone will have by now formed their own impressions, which, as in your case, will generally accord with their own perspective on the issue. I responded to Jordan's suggestion that hispanics favouring gun control would do better to focus on the economic issues within their communities, and the discussion took off from there. (http://mailman.lbo-talk.org/pipermail/lbo-talk/Week-of-Mon-20121217/007657.html). At this stage, I think we've pretty well exhausted the subject, and I'm happy to move on.
