Why are people in prison in the U.S.
1. Drug use
2. Mental illness and/or disability
3. Violent crime.
But most of all: Poverty. Because if you're rich or powerful you can use drugs, you can be disabled, and you can cause millions to be killed either as a result of war or as a result of rendering them destitute, and you will not spend one day in jail.
We also have jails because the dispossessed male factory workers needed jobs.

Why does it seem unlikely to you that they have all the right ones locked up?
^^^^^^^^ CB: I saw a news story yesterday on just one county in Texas that has , now , 30 plus men who have been released from prison because they are innocent. That's just one county.
I think there are stats that most people in prison or a major fraction are for non-violent crimes , like drug possession. They are not the "right ones". ___________________________________ http://mailman.lbo-talk.org/mailman/listinfo/lbo-talk
