The issue of drunk driving may become mute in any case. Nevada has just issued the first license to Google for a self-driving car. The major car makers have self-driving prototypes as well. The technology seems remarkably mature already - given another few years it should be safe for widespread use. And there's every reason to believe it would dramatically cut down accident injuries and fatalities. Unfortunately, any fatalities caused by autonomous vehicles will take on a dramatic cast far greater than the hum-drum 30,000 - 40,000 auto deaths every year.
