Here’s a link to a strong statement by Éric Toussaint, Costas Lapavitsas, David Harvey, Micheal Hudson, and 20 other prominent left-wing academics aimed at abolishing private ownership of the crisis-prone global banking system. 

The paper draws a balance sheet of the bank bailouts over the past decade, and proposes a number of transitional regulatory measures leading to the full socialization of the financial sector.
