An ambitious study shows the volume of stuff created by humankind over the millennia- houses, factories, farms, mines, roads, cars, railways, airports, docks, dams, sewers, hardware, and other natural materials which have been mined, excavated or in some way altered or reprocessed .- is at least 100,000 times heavier than the global human population.

Scientists further estimate that the waste from this human production preserved in geological strata, so-called “technofossils”, already far exceeds biological fossils accumulated over the course of planetary history.
