Identity politics has become the new weapon of the 1% against everyone else, and this is what passes for "progressivism". "Progressivism" has become nothing but a campaign for a more diverse rainbow of exploiters fucking over 99% of the population while everyone else gets thrown under the bus. And the leaders of the "progressive movement" are just as contemptuous of working people as are Republicans.
This is what bothers me about those who say we need a new "Left" party or a new "Progressive" party. There is no Left. There is no "Progressive Movement". These are fictions. What passes for progressivism is a bunch of neoliberals who throw around terms like "intersectionality", but who's battles against opression never include class oppression. The so-called "Progressive Movement" is now the vanguard of neo-liberalism. They speak of "inequality" when it suits them, but their concern for the underclasses is just a shibboleth. When confronted with those who are serious about change, they show their true nature.
What common ground is there between these neo-liberal dead-enders and those who genuinely care about economic justice? We don't need a "Left" party. We don't need a "Progressive" party. We need a workers' party.
