Ugh. Why on earth are the Greens trying to pull the Dems' chestnuts out of the fire for them? Sounds like they've been spooked into lesserevillism by all the liberal-schmiberal geschrei und gevalt. Disappointing.

------

It was of course _inevitable_ that at some point the Republicans would win election again. That was/is the huge hole in the thought of "lesser evil" devotees: even when they "won," they were merely contributing to the victory of a worse "worse evil"! And in this election it was not even clear which candidate was the "lesser evil."

Speculation: Liberal Panic during this campaign has its foundation in the widespread identification of _any_ sort of authoritarianism with "fascism." And this would generate blindness to _other_ forms of the "police state." I've mentioned before that the requirement of ID for travel was a _serious_ loss of freedom -- and yet few of those terrified of Trump show any appreciation of the significant limitation of freedom from the 1970s on: War on Drugs; Prison System; NAFTA; control over border crossings with Mexico & Canada. These, not Trump, are the threats to "bourgeois democracy" that should be terrifying us.
