Adam Davidson has a piece in The New Yorker mainly focused on Peter Navarro, Trump’s trade guru who is on the faculty at UC Irvine. The story notes that Navarro has a econ Ph.D. from Harvard. You can find the Davidson piece here:

What Davidson does not tell us about Navarro is that Nucor Steel donated $1 million to a non-profit in San Diego which then passed the $1 million to Navarro. Navarro was proposing to do a China bashing film, based on his book Death By China.. Why not just give the money directly from Nucor to Navarro? Davidson knows about money laundering.

The film got made and was not well received. Trump blurbed it, according to Davidson

Davidson, in the New Yorker piece, tells us "Being the only economist—and one with a Harvard Ph.D. at that—on Donald Trump’s economic team, Navarro provides a patina of legitimacy.”

Why didn’t Davidson tell us about the patina of illegitimacy re Navarro?
