They couldn't get anyone else to. Really, who else could be the perfect left non-socialist 3rd party candidate. I voted for him but I couldn't really stomach the 10 principles of the Green party - they had all this totally wishy washy stuff like "we affirm that children should be taught the value of ecology etc." And in addition to the vagueness of this statement, the federal government isn't supposed to play a role in determining local curriculum, so why are they even bothering to state it.

They had an article in Forbes about this perhaps 3 years ago. You could probably find it. He is really proud of having lived on $10,000 to $12,000 per year for most of his life. But one of his main roles in life is giving speeches and raising money for this whole umbrella of organizations under him, so he is in effect earning a great deal of money. Forbes was trying to make this sound scandalous - oh my god a harvard educated lawyer and he might live in a comfortable apartment rather than a tenement room in a poor neighborhood. I doubt that he really has some secret embarrassing vice. During the days when he was fighting GM, GM sent out some women to try to lure him on a date or something (that was taboo in the 50s??) where they could try to get him into a compromising situation and secretly take pictures, and so ever since he has supposedly been really wary and hasn't dated anyone.
