I know. I've been with elderly neighbors ranting about deceptions on their bills, including the ones paid by Medicare. If they had a place to channel that where it would mean something, shit, the crooks wouldn't stand a chance. I know I'd love making it one of my retirement projects.

If the system was in place I think that not only would the drug companies be restricted, but environmental destruction would become a real no-no. What with the costs of long-term health effects. A national health care system seems to me to be the bedrock and the only feasible launching pad for a better system of economic organization. It's a glue without the stink of ideology.

So. Please don't dismiss it as a possibility, and a neccessity. I can not imagine any other way of avoiding a truly horrible future for the country. There simply is no way to make the healthcare system work if we continue on our present course. Maybe that's why Social Security is an obsession. It's a way to avoid the subject that is screaming for attention.

BTW, who's Pete Peterson, and what about his new book, A Gray Dawn, I think? Just caught the end of his spot on C. Rose. Sounds hysterical about social security, but thinks we're in lots better shape than most because of immigration and a relatively high birth rate?

Idealistically speaking-p.
