Where the Fascists Are

You probably know that the Fascist Party was started in Italy with Mussolini as its leader. It was the bourgeoisie's response to try to head off the rapid growth of the working class and socialist movement toward state power in Europe at the beginning of the century by disgarding bourgeois democratic republican forms of government and instituting dictatorships. The German Nazis became the most extreme form of this dictatorship.

The precise Marxist definition was formulated by the Communist Georgi Dimitroff ( who had won in a German court against the Nazi frameup in the Reichstag fire) as the open terrorist rule of the most reactionary, chauvinist sectors of the financial oligarchy.

The finanical oligarchy is the ruling class of state-monopoly or finance capitalism or imperialism from Lenin's analysis of the new phase of capitalism in his _Imperialism_ .

I've got a simple question:

What, exactly, does it mean to be a fascist?

A friend of mine is fond of saying, "its anything I don't like." I think he's got a point.
