Is anyone keeping an eye on the situation in the Moluccas? I heard the Australian Broadcasting Corporation suggesting this morning that international intervention might be needed in this part of Indonesia to stop intercommunal violence. The Army are said to be taking sides with one faction (un-named). This is a majority Christian area with recent Muslim settlement and Muslims are gaining economic dominance.

There seems to be potential for the Timor precedent to allow Western interference here - once again on alleged humanitarian grounds. This could be a major threat to Indonesian sovereignty.
