No, that is why Clinton won. If you think Gore would have taken the Ohio Valley states that Clinton got, not to mention Tennessee, by being clearly further left, well.....

A more telling criticism of Gore is that he is a stiff and unappealing individual. But that is not a policy matter. Heck, he is so stiff and unappealing that he gets blamed for Monica Lewinsky!
