Two grad school friends of mine collected bad books. One of them came up with a four-book epic called *The Washingtoniad* written by a protestant minister around 1900 so that american boys would have a poem to teach them patriotism like the greeks had homer and the romans had vergil. But there is a limit to how much of such stuff one can take without turning cross-eyed.
