Don't know if this is what you are looking for, but here is an obscure one for you. My grandmother on my late fathers side was poor, but owned one good set of dishes. She was so proud of them in fact, and careful to preserve them that she never served food on them. When she died, they went to her brother who immediately sold them. So no one in our family ever ate off them.
