The Register says that that the #crackXP team merely hacked a javascript source file and that users won't know if the crack really works until their 2-week trial period is over. According to said site, XP is tough nut, as digital signatures have been buried in many system components that are verified during the SSL-encrypted activation, which is why a *working* crack isn't expected just yet.
