no. set it so that this doesn't happen:

tools > Internet Options > Advanced (tab) > Browsing > uncheck Use Inline AutoComplete in Explorer

or, use the Opera browser at www.opera.com/ it is much more flexible and can be customized in a variety of ways depending on you use the 'net.

your cursor probably changed when you uninstalled the software. reverted to a default setting. the hour glass is normal. it appears when your 'fuser is waiting for a page to load or an application to fire up.

get a firewall -- it's free. http://www.tinysoftware.com/pwall.php or www.zonealarm.com/ i'm using both right now because i'm comparing them. they're a little different. zonealarm is more user friendly but has some drawbacks.

use antivirus software.
