NEW YORK (December 22, 2004) - As the 2004 holiday season comes to a close, consumers are already thinking about their post-Christmas shopping plans. According to a nationwide survey, commissioned by the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and UBS, one in five consumers definitely plan to shop on December 26, which this year falls on a Sunday.
December 26 has traditionally been one of the top 10 busiest holiday shopping days. According to ICSC Research, holiday sales are expected to grow to approximately $230 billion for a combined November and December period.
Opinion Research Corporation conducted the survey on behalf of ICSC and UBS during the period of December 16-19, 2004. The telephone survey consisted of 10 questions relating to consumers holiday spending plans and featured a national sampling of 1,023 adults, 18 years and older. The margin of error is plus or minus three percentage points.
