--actually, whether I 'approve' or don't is immaterial to what is happening on the ground in Iraq. ------------------------- After piling up hundreds of thousands of corpses, Saddam was able to get the "resistance is futile" message across loud and clear.
--the US certainly done just about that in Iraq by now. only it hasn't successfully convinced anyone that resistance to an illegal occupier is futile. it's a major major mess for the US, so much so that a president who had remarkably high ratings in the post-911 period now has made an otherwise subservient press very concerned about the future capacity of empire. save a few off the wall armchair warriors like Michael Totten calling for the bombing of Iran as a remedy, the US is in a lousy position in terms of regime change in Syria and Iran, its next apparent targets after Sodom. That lousy position *is* something, btw, that I do approvingly note.
